It all started cutely enough.
We were on the bus heading downtown for Brianna’s birthday party and Courtney was telling me about her challenge for May: She would not eat any chocolate. I felt daring and said, “Sure, I’ll join you!”
Then with a fate-filled handshake we sealed the deal. As a regular chocolate eater (5-6 days a week – sad, yet incredibly true) I didn’t think through the repercussions of this challenge thoroughly.
Later that evening, as we were chatting around the table I told my friend Claire about the challenge. She thought it a great idea too – and joined in without hesitation.
Later that night, after we all went our separate ways, and as I lay in my bed waiting for sleep to claim me- I began pondering, why don’t we up the ante? What if we say goodbye to sugar for an entire month?
The next day I told Claire of this plan, and she (I’m thinking you didn’t really think it through either, did you?) said yes.
And thus the birth of “No Sugar May”.
I can’t help but wonder what on earth did we sign ourselves up for?
We made it! Thank goodness for the social clause!
